Introduction with explanation about the Santi Maha Sangha and the importance of the Base; how SMS works to develop the knowledge and practice of the individual not in an intellectual sense but through awareness of ones condition and the limitations of samsara. Topics from the base level book will include the first chapters on what is not spirituality, and what defines a true spiritual path. We will conclude with Practice of the Short Tun.
Saturday, May 26, 2012: 10:00-Noon
The preliminaries ( 4 mindfulnesses) and 7 lojong and how the seventh of these is very important because it relates to the base of our practice and how we can work with the three experiences of sensation, clarity, and emptiness. We begin to work with the visualization of the first of the seventh lojong. Then we work with kumbhaka training, and finally try to see how the visualization and the retention work together and support each other.
Saturday afternoon 4:00-6:00 PM:
Explanation of the first six lojong and continue the practise just like the morning session. Sunday, May 27, 2012 10:00-Noon: Sutra and Tantra, characteristics and difference of method and view. Explanation of the two truths, the distinguishing quality of sutra's method of using concepts and analysis and Tantras method working with energy, symbol, and the manifestation of wisdom. Introduce the second practice of the 7 lojong dealing with clarity.
Sunday afternoon: 3:00-6:00 PM
Explanation of the 4 conditions of knowledge, three characteristics of base path and fruit, and Approach and Accomplishment. Practice continues with emphasis on the parlung and retention of the central prana without force. Finish with Ganapuja.
