Himalaya is set in the remote region of Dolpa, in the Nepalese Himalayas, and tells of the rivalry between a proud old chieftain and a young vigorous herdsman as they struggle for leadership during the yearly journey undertaken by the inhabitants of their village. The purpose of the journey is to trade rock salt for grain on which the villagers depend upon for winter survival. Himalaya is both an intense drama and the recounting of quickly disappearing Tibetan traditions.
Running time: 108 minutes
This showing is part of SSI and IDC TE's movie series to provide engaging educational programs about developmental, cultural and humanitarian issues in the Himalayan region.
