For your convenience, we have made a map of the area around Tsegyalgar and Khandroling showing connections to major highways. Download Map Viewing the map you can see that Conway, Ashfield, Buckland, and Shelburne Falls form a ring of roads in the area where our retreats will be. These hilltowns are rural. There is no public transportation. GPS will not always direct your automobile correctly. You may not have cell phone coverage or internet access in some areas. Shelburne Falls is a larger town, however, with amenities and excellent internet and cell access.

Travel by Car to Tsegyalgar

From the South:
In Massachusetts take I-91 north to exit #24 for Deerfield/Conway. Turn right off the exit ramp on to Rts. 5 & 10. At the 3rd set of lights take a left on to Rte 116 north. Follow Rt 116 ten miles uphill into the center of Conway. Continue on Rt. 166 through the center of the village and past Bakers' convenience store on the left. Continue up the hill a short way. Where Rt 116 curves right, take a left onto Maple Street and another immediate left onto the very steep Schoolhouse Road, where you will see Dzogchen Community welcome sign. At the top of the hill you will see the Yellow Schoolhouse.

From the North:
In Massachusetts take I-91 south to exit #25 for Deerfield/Conway. Take a right off the exit onto Rt. 116 north. Follow Rt 116 ten miles uphill into the center of Conway. Continue on Rt. 166 through the center of the village and past Bakers' convenience store on the left. Continue up the hill a short way. Where Rt 116 curves right, take a left onto Maple Street and another immediate left onto the very steep Schoolhouse Road, where you will see Dzogchen Community welcome sign. At the top of the hill you will see the Yellow Schoolhouse.

Travel by Bus

The Peter Pan Bus Company or Greyhound Bus Company can bring you as far as Greenfield, MA and Northampton, MA.

Travel by Train

AMTRAK has a train stop in Northhampton and Greenfield! The train is called the Vermonter. It is a direct train to and from New York City, once a day.

In addition, the Amtrak runs to and from Springfield many times a day. Amtrak schedules and fares here: www.amtrak.com.

If you arrive in Springfield, continue to Travel by Bus. Caution: arrange your travel connections ahead of time. More buses from NYC terminate in Northampton or Amherst than come all the way to Greenfield.

Travel by Air

The nearest airport to Tsegyalgar East is Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut. www.bradleyairport.com From the airport, it is a one hour, 50 mile ride up the Connecticut River valley to Tsegyalgar. Logan Airport (BOS) in Boston is a two hour drive from Tsegyalgar. John F. Kennedy (JFK) or LaGuardia (LGA) International airports in New York City are a four hour drive. From the Airport to Tsegyalgar:

By Taxi - A taxi from the Bradley airport to Tsegyalgar (or another destination nearby) will cost about $150. This is a good price for four people traveling together, not so good for one person!

By Shuttle - The Valley Transporter shuttle service can bring you in a van from the airport to any destination in our area. Prices vary according to distance (about $75. one way). You must call ahead and make a reservation. Tel. 800-872-8752 www.valleytransporter.com

Car Rental

Enterprise Rental is located at 136 River Street in Greenfield. The local telephone number for Enterprise Rental is 413-774-5092.

To get to the Greenfield Enterprise location from the airport, train or bus station, you can travel on the Valley Transporter (reservations required; $69. one way from the airport). A local car rental may be less expensive than an airport rental. Check back here for updates.

Getting around the hilltowns

The main roads of our hilltowns form a circle around Khandroling, where our beautiful new Vajra hall is on the summit of a mountain in the forest. The towns of Conway, Ashfield, and Shelburne Falls are each about 10 miles from the other: from Conway you can drive west to Ashfield on Rt 116, then north to Shelburne Falls on Rt 112, and then south to Conway again on the Conway/Shelburne Falls Road.

THESE HILLTOWNS ARE NOT CONNECTED BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. If you are lodging in the hilltowns you will certainly need access to a car (unless you are walking distance to Tsegyalgar). As usual, the optimal arrangement will be for small groups of travelers to lodge in one place and rent a car together or share rides.
